Fast Scanning for Cherry lugs and Table Grape cartons.
GrowData’s harvest app has proved to be a winner for in-field recording of bins picked and picker tallies using mobile phones, but we need to look a different method of data capture when it came to high volume produce coming into the shed, such as cherry lugs and packed in the field produce such as table grapes.
With these products there is no need to record an actual bin number. It is simply a matter of recording who picked each item and to do it at maximum speed and complete accuracy.
To do this GrowData created a stock receival input screen. This screen allows the grower to identify the crop type, variety, contract picking rate etc.
As speed reading is essential because of the volumes involved, we opted for a handheld barcode scanner connected via Bluetooth to our stock receival program which can be on a laptop or iPad.
Like all GrowData products the stock receival program is cloud based and links directly to the database. This means all information is sent directly into GrowData.
When speed reading barcodes there is always the possibility of double reading a barcode, so we built in an option in the barcode setup to block duplicate scans.
The system is very low cost and has increased speed and accuracy for our clients who are recording harvest in the shed rather than in the field.
