The horrific accident that occurred in a Goulburn Valley Packing Shed recently highlights the importance of OH&S and Compliance.
Irish backpacker Annie Dunne wanted to gain a second-year on her working holiday visa so began working at the fruit packing job to meet the extension criteria. No one realised the conveyor belt that Annie was cleaning at 6pm that evening was turned on. As she worked her hair got caught in it and she was scalped from forehead to neck.
After Annie was rushed to the local hospital then transferred to Melbourne a spokesperson said she was in a stable condition. Her family has flown to Melbourne to be with Annie during her recovery.
A Victoria WorkSafe spokesperson said they were investigating the incident and inspectors have attended the fruit packing shed following the accident.
